I just wish they'd use the same Ducato name and diesel engines and manual transmission that Europe gets, and that our Ducatos were made in Europe rather than Mexico.

They have to be built in Mexico to avoid the chicken tax(the Transit Connect is build in Turkey and shipped here for final assembly).

We still call them Sprinters out of habit. And the 3.6L makes these feel surprisingly quick. The diesel is coming eventually.

Ford is shifting TransitConnect production to Spain, but I guess the same rule still applies. Ford's workaround for the TC is to ship only passenger vans from Spain and Turkey (passenger vans aren't subject to the childish tariff) and then recycle the seats and windows not used in the eventual cargo vans. But here's another part that's almost as stupid as the chicken tax: they don't just reuse the seats and ship them back to Europe; instead, they just recycle them.

Sprinter cargo vans are assembled in South Carolina as CKD kits; the passenger versions are shipped from Germany as a normal car. Interestingly though, Mercedes doesn't sell us Mexican Sprinters even though they do build them in Mexico, including a V12 AMG Sprinter!

Ford's full-size Transit is going to be made here when it becomes available to us.
